Who Is At risk of Gum Disease?
By the age of thirty five , 74% of adults are affected by periodontal ie gum
disease. If untreated gum disease leads to bad breath, swollen and bleeding
gums and tooth loss. It has also been linked to am incresed risk of heart disease.
Some people seem to be more susceptible than others. Anything from pregnancy,
systemic disease like diabetes and certain medications can contribute to its
development.
Smoking increases the likelihood dramatically.
Some unlucky folk are inherently more susceptible because of the unique bacterial
and chemical mixes in the mouth that encourage plagues.
But there is some good news. Once you have been diagnosed we can start on a treatment
programme that invoves the mechanical removal of plaque and smoothing the root
surface of the teeth so gum tissue has a chance to reattach.
As a co-therapist, we will depend on you to continue the work at home.
Its critical to the success of your treatment that you
1. Brush and Floss twice a day.
2. Come in Regularly as a dentist can get your teeth their cleanest.
3.Maintain a healthy diet.
