Ozone is a special gas produced by the HealOzone appliance. It is extremely effective to killing off the bacteria which cause caries inside and on the tooth.
The HealOzone treatment system is an electrical medical appliance. It consists of an ozone generator and a handpiece fitted with a disposable sealing silicone cup connected to the appliance by means of an instrument hose.
It has been developed to apply ozone through the handpiece to the surface of the tooth affected by caries, so as to treat the caries lesions. In clinical tests it has been proved that fissure caries and primary root caries lesions can be reversed with the HealOzone system.
The HealOzone appliance requires a high voltage power supply to generate ozone from the air previously channelled through the drying cartridge. The ozone is then sucked out the sealing siclicone cup and channelled through an ozone neutralising filter which converts the ozone back into oxygen. A liquid pH balancer is then applied. The pH balancer fluid netrualises the residual bacterial acid and applies minerals and fluoride in high concentration. The Patient Kit promotes remineralisation within approximately 6 weeks.
