Gum Disease in Essex ! The Silent Killer!!!

The Silent Killer

Surprising but true: the major cause of tooth loss in adults is not decay -
it's periodontal (gum) disease. And it's completely painless right up to an
advanced stage.
More than half of all the people over age 18 have at least the early stage
of periodontal disease. After age 35 about three out of four adults are
affected.
Some people seem to be more susceptible to gum disease than others.
Anything from pregnancy, systemic disease (like diabetes), and certain
medications can contribute to its development. Smoking increases the
likelihood dramatically (and renders treatment less effective). Some unlucky
folks are inherently more susceptible because of unique bacterial and
chemical mixes in the mouth that encourage plaques.
The result of gum disease aren't pretty. Early stages show up as persistent
bad breath and red, swollen gums. Eventually tooth loss is inevitable. Gum
disease has mean linked to an increased risk of heart disease.
But there is good news. Once you've been diagnosed your dentist can start on
a treatment programme that involves mechanical removal of plaque and
smoothing the root surface of the teeth so gum tissue has a chance to
reattach. As co-therapist, your dentist will depend on you to continue the
work at home. It's critical to success of your treatment that you:
1. Brush and floss twice a day
2. Come in regularly. Only a hygienist can get your teeth their cleanest
3. Maintain a healthy diet
Periodontal disease can be treated at every stage. If you notice any signs
of gum problems, do call your dentist for a periodontal examination.
Together you can beat the statistics and have a good chance of never having
to wear dentures.

Cosmetic Dentistry Dental Crowns in Essex!

A Simple Case of Bad Economics

You lost a filling, but it doesn'thurt right now. Or you brush your teeth and your gums bleed a little. You tell yourself, "It's no big deal. Besides, I'll get around to seeing a dentist...next week...after the car is fixed."

If this sounds a little like you or someone you know, then we would like to give you a little free advice: prevention is the key to health and happiness when it comes to safeguarding one of your most unique personal assets - your smile.

We know when times are tough and pounds are scarce that dental problems often windup on the back burner. But we cling to the idea of preventive dentistry not just because we value your dental health, but anyway you look at it, preventive dentistry is less expensive.

Stop and think about these facts for a moment:
- It costs the average dental patient less money to have his or her teeth checked and cleaned than it does for the same patient to have his or her hair cut each year.
- The real cost of even an expensive and elaborate dental procedure such as a crown is only 17p per day over the average lifetime of the crown (10 years).
- By age 65 most people have lost some or all their teeth and have to wear a denture. Yet by age 65 most dental hygienists have all of their teeth. Do they know something the rest of us don't?

It will always cost us less to fix a problem now than it will later. Of course you can gamble and possibly make the problem irreparable.

In our practice the patients with the best track records are always the ones who take an active interest in their own dental health. On our side we instruct patients in the best home preventive techniques, encourage regular professional cleanings and check ups and restore and repair problems with the best materials and techniques so that any dental work will be a long term valuable investment to our patients.

If you have current problems or concerns we hope to be of service to you in the future. Whether you come to us or not, make sure to treat any dental problems as they occur while they are still small. In that way you can prevent unnecessary pain and inconvenience.

And in the long run your pocketbook will be healthier too!

Botox In Essex! Performed By A Cosmetic Dentist.

A little bit about Botox...

Botox is now the UK’s No1 treatment for facial lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead because it really does remove the tell-tale signs of ageing. It is quick, safe and simple and can be combined with a filler such as Restylane to give a full facial makeover to really roll the years back.

The really magical thing about Botox is that the more you use it (over time!!) the better it gets, because Botox has a preventive effect. By weakening the muscles that cause the lines, they relax more, the lines reduce more so the skin recovers and smoothes out to give a more youthful look.

What is Botox?
It is probably best to describe what Botox is not! Botox is not botulism. Botulism food poisoning is caused by massive amounts of botulinum bacteria creating massive amounts of toxin. Botox, or Botulinum Toxin A to give it its full name, has been used in very dilute amounts for many years in ophthalmology, neurology and for cosmetic cases worldwide. In our treatments we use a miniscule amount of the chemical secreted by the botulism bacteria. There is nothing alive in the Botox injection.

Is it safe?
Perfectly. It is impossible to get poisoning from Botox injections as we use such diluted preparations.

How does it work?
Injections are given into the frown and wrinkle areas which temporarily put the frown muscles to sleep for about 4 months. This freezing of the muscle is always temporary and can never be permanent so the treatment is called Hibernation treatment……..the muscle temporarily hibernates.

Will it leave my face numb?
No. There is no change in your skin sensation.
Do the injections hurt?
No. The needles are very fine and the amount injected each time is very small. Some people say that it feels like a small bug bite so local anaesthesia or sedation is not required but we can provide them if you prefer.

Which wrinkles can be treated?
The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, between the eyes (frown lines) and the crow’s-feet around the eyes.

Will I be able to move my face afterwards?
Certainly! Just not as much. Extreme movement of the muscles that caused the wrinkles will have been prevented but the other normal facial muscles will not have been affected.

When will I see the difference?
Usually in 3-5 days but individuals vary. The greatest effect, however, is seen after 2 weeks or so.

How will I look after treatment?
You will notice a slight redness after treatment around the injection sites. This will settle after a few hours. You can apply an ice pack to help reduce redness and make- up can be used to cover the redness.

Are there any side effects?
It is a very safe treatment. Side effects, however, can occur but are very rare. They can include slight bruising at the injection sites, slight headache and sometimes a slight drooping of the eyelid which would only last a week or so. Because the effects of Botox are completely reversible any side effects are temporary and short lasting.

Is there anything I should avoid after treatment?
During the first 4 hours after treatment, we advise you to avoid vigorous exercise and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol. Otherwise you can carry on as normal.

How long will it last?
Again, individuals vary. In most cases you can expect excellent results for three months with a gradually diminishing effect over the following 3 months. Regular treatment ‘trains’ the muscles not to move as much so that, over time, less treatment is needed to keep the facial muscles relaxed.

How often will I need treatment?
On average most people like to come back about every 4 to 5 months when they first start their injections. People who have large facial muscles (like men) or who have very ‘expressive’ faces may require more frequent treatment. People who have regular top ups gradually require less and less treatment as their muscles are retrained.

What if I really don’t like the result?
That would be very unusual, but if that was so then remember that the effects are completely reversible and with a bit of patience you can have all your old wrinkles back.

Can anybody be treated with Botox?
Almost, but not if you are pregnant or suffer from a neurological disorder such as Parkinson’s Disease or Myasthenia Gravis.

Benefits?

Softer, more relaxed appearance

Serene countenance enhancing your natural appearance

Gradual retraining of the “wrinkle” muscles leading to a smoother,
more youthful looking skin

Increased self confidence

Medical Strength DEEP TCA Chemical Peels In Essex! Cosmetic Dentist Essex.

MEDIUM DEPTH TCA PEEL.

This goes slightly deeper into the skin for a faster and more dramatic result.

There is a bit more redness and significantly more peeling and patients may take a week to 10 days off from work or normal social activities as peeling is very noticeable and may cause social embarassment.

WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE A CHEMICAL PEEL??

If you have a history of problems with Keloid scars < raised scars that grow out beyond the original site of injury> or other types of scarring of the skin.

If you have facial warts or any current facial infection

If you have used the anti acne treatment ISOTRETINOIN < Brand name ROACCUTANE > within the last 12 months.

If you have darkly pigmented skin or red hair with freckled skin. In such cases you would be generally be unsuitable for the deeper peels owing to the potential for skin bleaching.

Afro Caribbean or Asian skin is often not suited to facial peels because of the risk of bleaching the skin. This is particularly the case with deeper peels where the top layers of skin are removed.

If you are going on a hot holiday within a month of the peel.

ALL PATIENTS WILL NEED TO BE AWARE THAT FOLLOWING THE SKIN PEEL , YOUR FACE WILL BE MORE SENSITIVE TO UV LIGHT SO SENSIBLE UV PROTECTION CREAM < MINIMUM FACTOR 30 BROAD SPECTRUM SUN CREAM > WILL BE REQUIRED.

Medical Strength Chemical Peels In Essex! Cosmetic Dentist Essex.

Chemical Peels have become increasingly popular over the past two decades and can be a very effective treatment to rejuvenate and tighten the skin, treat sun damage, reduce lines and wrinkles and deal with abnormal pigmentation problems.

They are a also a very powerful treatment for acne and can be very effective where more conventional treatments have failed to adequately control this condition. They do not all cause severe peeling, redness and blistering that some television programmes will have us to believe.

The use of medical peels to rejuvenate the skin actually dates as far as the Egyptians who used sour milk or fermented grape skins. What they didnt realise was that they were benefitting from the light skin peeling effects of a family of chemicals called hydroxy acids. Today, scientists have identified many safe forms of acid which can be used to induce rejuvenation in our skin.

SUPERFICIAL GLYCOLIC ACID PEELS.

These are typically carried out as a course and are sometimes referred to in the press as LUNCH-TIME peels as they are fast and convenient , taking about 30 mins and need virtually no recovery time and no anaesthetic cream is required. You can be back to work immediately afterwards.

Superficial Peels are recommended for early signs of sun damage and for boosting collagen production.
They also help to reduce fine lines, open pores as well as reduce pigmentaion and freckles.

A course of superficial peels can be repeated once or twice a year to keep the skin in good condition and to protect against skin aging.

Botox In Essex! Performed By A Cosmetic Dentist.

When considering wrinkle treatments, the type of treatment you and your physician decide upon really depends on the types of wrinkles being treating. For wrinkles caused by lines of motion, for example when you smile or the creases on the forehead, those dynamic wrinkles are best treated using something like Botox.

What is Botox?
Botox is a protein that is produced by a bacteria, clostridium botulinum, that paralyzes muscles. It's been used for years in the ophthalmology world for people that have problems with the way their eyes look, such as children that have one eye going in the wrong direction. Botox was used to paralyze the muscle causing the misguided eye, correcting the problem.

Later the husband/wife team of Alistair and Jean Caruthers in Canada discovered the cosmetic dermatologic application of the protein. It can also be used to treat patients who have muscle spasm, patients with muscular dystrophy or cerebral palsy.

Positives and Negatives
The effects of Botox injections are temporary, which can both be seen as positive and negative. For patients it can be seen as a bad thing because they have to keep going back to get more Botox. However it can also be a positive thing because the risk of over-treatment, or excessive paralyzing of muscles, is limited because the effects will fade. You can rest assured it will go away.

What Botox Treats
Botox is mainly used in cosmetic dermatology for the upper part of the face to paralyze the muscles of facial expression. Over time, as the sun damages our skin, wrinkles can appear when we move our facial muscles. Across the brow or the little elevens that people get which can make them look stern, between the upper bridge of the nose, may be effectively treated with Botox.

Some physicians may use Botox carefully around the lips. If applied in sparing amounts, it may improve the wrinkles around the lips, though there is a risk of immobilizing the lips, which is obviously not desirable.

Another place Botox is being used frequently now is platysma muscle. Some people with thin skin on the neck have these tightened bands of skin on the neck caused by the platysma muscle in the neck. Botox injections may be used in the neck to relax that.

Botox is also often used to improve depressed eyebrows, as well as improve hyperhidrosis of the underarms or hands (excessive sweating).

Botox is often used in conjunction with lasers and fillers to address the signs of photo-aging or sun induced aging of the skin.

Botox Side Effects
As Botox will paralyze muscles and prevent them from moving, the greatest side effects generally arise from over treatment. If used in excess Botox may produce an undesirable result by immobilizing too much of the face, or as in the example above, limit use of the lips. By injecting minute doses of the protein, most often a trained physician is able to produce a satisfactory result. Generally an improvement can be seen within several days of the treatment and may last up to 4 months, although results may vary.

Healozone In Essex!

Ozone is a special gas produced by the HealOzone appliance. It is extremely effective to killing off the bacteria which cause caries inside and on the tooth.

The HealOzone treatment system is an electrical medical appliance. It consists of an ozone generator and a handpiece fitted with a disposable sealing silicone cup connected to the appliance by means of an instrument hose.

It has been developed to apply ozone through the handpiece to the surface of the tooth affected by caries, so as to treat the caries lesions. In clinical tests it has been proved that fissure caries and primary root caries lesions can be reversed with the HealOzone system.

The HealOzone appliance requires a high voltage power supply to generate ozone from the air previously channelled through the drying cartridge. The ozone is then sucked out the sealing siclicone cup and channelled through an ozone neutralising filter which converts the ozone back into oxygen. A liquid pH balancer is then applied. The pH balancer fluid netrualises the residual bacterial acid and applies minerals and fluoride in high concentration. The Patient Kit promotes remineralisation within approximately 6 weeks.
